Extract RAR Files with 7-Zip

Step-by-step guide to extracting RAR and RAR5 archives using 7-Zip.

Step 1: Locate the RAR File

Find the .rar file in Windows Explorer. If it's a multi-volume archive, make sure all parts are in the same folder.

Step 2: Right-Click and Select 7-Zip

Right-click the RAR file (or the first part for multi-volume: .part1.rar) and hover over "7-Zip" in the context menu.

Step 3: Choose Extraction Option

Select "Extract Here" to extract to the current folder, "Extract to [name]\" to create a subfolder, or "Extract files..." for a destination dialog.

Step 4: Enter Password (If Protected)

If the RAR is password-protected, enter the password when prompted. 7-Zip supports all RAR encryption methods including AES-256 (RAR5).

Step 5: Access Extracted Files

Extraction may take a few minutes for large archives. Once complete, your files are in the destination folder with the original directory structure preserved.

Extracting Specific Files from RAR

To extract only certain files: double-click the RAR to open it in 7-Zip File Manager, select the files you want, and drag them to your destination folder.
