Guide to opening 7z archive files on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Opening 7z on Windows

Download and install 7-Zip from 7-zip.org. Right-click any .7z file, select 7-Zip > Open archive or Extract Here.

Opening 7z on Mac

macOS cannot open 7z natively. Install The Unarchiver (free from Mac App Store) or Keka. Then double-click the .7z file to extract.

Opening 7z on Linux

Install p7zip: sudo apt install p7zip-full (Debian/Ubuntu). Then use: 7z x archive.7z or open with your file manager (Ark, File Roller).

Opening Password-Protected 7z

If the 7z file is encrypted, enter the password when prompted. If filenames are encrypted, you'll need the password to even view the contents.
